Troy and the Ecstasy of Gold

This is a video tribute ripped from Youtube, with the lousy rap video track removed and replaced with L’Estasi Dell’oro by Ennio Morricone. This is sitting on our server so be patient while it downloads. Hopefully it will work reasonably well. Aside from being an awesome tune for a highlight reel, it could not be a more appropriate title for a Steelers reel.

H/T to The Wolf for putting the song in my head. It’s from “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” (AKA, the Steelers, the Browns, and the Ravens).

May favorite from that “reel” is Troy’s collision with Palmer at the goal line from his second season. The funniest part about Troy trucking Palmer for a TD, is that they were friends and roommates at USC.

Thanks for posting, Copa! I was fortunate enough to be at the AFC Championship game and witness the pick-6–even to this day it feels like I was watching something that was pre-recorderd, because there’s no way I deserved to see that live…truly awesome and utterly unforgettable!

Hey, I know what you mean. I’ve never been fortunate enough to see a Steelers playoff game. In fact the only game I ever saw live was a preseason game against the Jets in the mid 70s (however, memorably, I watched from the press box).

But I did have a similar experience watching in the Stanley Cup final. It was a game against the North Stars in the Igloo and we were seated behind and just above one of the goals. The chaos and excitement in the stands was just mindblowing all by itself, but the highlight was Mario’s breakaway goal – one you’ve seen on his career highlight reel. You watch it in slowmo replay and you can’t believe he could do what he did. And there it was, right in front of my face. It was so fast, and yet it seemed to be in super slow motion, almost surreal, juking that poor goalie right out of his pads. The crowd positively exploded, and I will never forget the moment of witnessing such historic greatness. I’m confident I’ll never see anything like that again, at least not live.

Going to the SD game this year? I’m going to Seattle. The Steelers have a bad West Coast record. Alas, if they are here and I skip it, I’ll be bummed.

Hadn’t thought about it. I’ll have to look into it.
