Not much of a football post (though this event did take place in Foxboro, MA at Gillette Stadium), but I just wanted to share my Stones experience with the friends of Steel Balls. As you may or may not know by now, I’m a ridiculously loyal Stones fan and I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them in concert several times over the past 30 years. My first experience was at the old RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. when I was 17 and I skipped school to camp out for tickets. For those of you who don’t know, the old RFK Stadium was in South East DC, which was (and maybe still is, I don’t know) an incredibly dangerous part of town; my mother would have killed me, I had no business doing it, it was stupid, but I don’t regret the experience for a single second — the things we went through before the internet, and somehow we all still survived. Fast forward through the in between years to this most recent one, and we saw them again in DC (this time FedEx Field) as well as Foxboro, and for the Foxboro show we decided to pony up the dough and get on the floor. Based on Mick’s recent medical scare (heart valve replacement that delayed the start of the tour by 2 months) coupled with Keith Richards’ ability have all modern medical professionals scratching their collective heads, this could be the last one and I wanted it to be memorable–man was it ever. The Stones and I have been through a lot together, and I’m sure I’m no different than any other long time fan (of anything) and there will be a day when the amplifiers are turned off and the mics are silent — but the personal nostalgia will always remain, and there’s a great deal of comfort in that. So no football, no hockey, and the Pirates still suck — but I go the Stones to carry me through this summer. Thanks for letting me share.

Great story TPBB. Sounds like me and Ted Nugent. I lost count of how many times I’ve seen him which is probably why I’m legally deaf in my right ear today. Got to meet him at a party here in Pensacola after a show one night. I worked with a guy that hunted and fished with Ted and he was able to get me in. But the best Nugent concert ever was in Roanoke. Got there early with my cousin and while finishing off a flask of Rebel Yell and few doobies in the parking lot we saw Ted go in the back door. We sneaked in (doors were not locked) and watched as Ted and his drummer practiced a ton of their older songs before we finally got “runnoft”. Back outside as we were waiting for the doors to open for the show, a staff member carried around a sign that read “Due to illness to Starz band member Ted will do entire show tonight” which explained the extra practice and old songs. The man played for over 2 and half hours until they finally had to carry his ass off the stage. Between the warm up session and stage show I’m pretty sure I’ll never see another Nugent show to match that one. Well, especially since he’s an old man like me now lol.

That sounds like it was fun — I went to the Roanoke Civic Center a lot when I was in college to watch the ECHL team Roanoke Runnin Rebels (of course that name doesn’t exist anymore) — that was a redneck convention from hell

Here, let me turn it into a football post for you TPBB.

What did Mike Tomlin say when the reporter asked him if his team could finally find a way to beat Tom Brady in Foxboro?

You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
    You get what you need

You get what you need, yeah, oh baby

And for my favorite Oakland Raider:

“Here comes your nineteenth nervous breakdown…….”
