BGINTN’s Special Spot

This entry was posted by on Tuesday, 14 January, 2014 at

BIGINTN asked, “COPA Can you create a space for us to list our “special” players in the draft and who we would pick if they are available at #15? It sure looks like there could be an impact player available that also fills an immediate need”.

Ask and you shall receive.

You can comment on this thread to highlight your faves. Sometime closer to the draft we can gather up final predictions.

    BGINTN is special.

  2. BGINTN

    no doubt

Okay, I’ll get the party started. My early pick is Eric Ebron – large, fast, talented TE from North Carolina. Look at these animated gifs and salivate.

    And he can block too…

“Yeah…. but can he do this?”

If he is there at 15, it would be mighty hard to pass on him right now, what will develope
      though.

There is no doubting his receiving skills. He would need to learn to bend his knees when blocking though. You aren’t going to get by with that technique at the next level.

I’ll say this: I would rather have Ebron than a tall WR, frankly. I think you give Wheaton a shot at Sticky-Fingers Sanders’ old spot, re-sign Jerrico, and stick Ebron in as a tweener–a TE who can split out. Along with Heath (and after him–how much longer does he have?), that’s a weapon Ben could really use.

        Totally agree.

Marqueston Huff, FS, in the later rounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TWd7En8-m0

If we’re talking 1st round CBs; the kid I like is Gilbert from Oklahoma State. He’s anywhere from the 2nd to 4th rated CB in this draft, depending on where you check. But he’s the best fit within the Steelers’ scheme. One caveat: questionable ball skills, just like Ike.

I like him too. Even though he is the right size for the Steelers, I read somewhere his style does not fit exactly what the Steelers play. Which might be a good thing.

      • Avatar photo abennihana

Similar to Keenan, he deflects a lot of balls.

  7. Pete

I would have to go with a replacement for Hampton. I’ve heard Nix mentioned a lot but will have to wait until after the combine. I’d take a NT if the right guy is there at 15 in this draft.

    • Avatar photo abennihana

Nix is the only possibility and it’s still TBD whether or not he would be a worthy choice at 15.

      • Avatar photo copanut

My thoughts exactly. The first rounder needs to be an immediate contributor, and apparently Nix is the only possibility for an immediate NT. He also may not be the second coming of Hampton as I’ve read some things about his work ethic that concern me. Thus it’s probably better to go differently in the first round and grab a lineman later in the draft that can develop for a year or so.

If the Steelers decide that the 1st rounder needs to be an immediate contributor, the field of selectable positions narrows considerably.

Probably only WR, CB (maybe) or TE

I think they’ll probably go with whoever the best prospect available is, regardless of whether he projects as a pro ready, Steelers ready rookie. Even Casey sat for 7 games behind Kendrick Clancy, who was not as good as Steve McLendon.

I think we are looking at Nix, Gilbert or one of the WR’s that might drop to pick 15. I don’t think they will take Ebron.

  9. BGINTN

    1. Watkins – I do not think he will be there, but DeCastro was not supposed to be there either and too good to pass up.
    2. Ebron – Best TE and gives Ben another target and fits well w/ Haley offense
    3. CB – Gilbert or Dennard this may be too high for either of them

    4. NT – Nix
    5. Trade back

Very surprised if they take OL

    • Avatar photo abennihana

I think that Watkins and Gilbert will both be gone by 15.

  10. SteelerJoe

Nobody seems to be talking about C.J. Mosely. I think he could be a top 10 talent who slips down to 15. If he does, you’ve got your defensive QB for the next decade.

      I agree

    • Avatar photo abennihana

I love the idea of that happening. I just don’t see it as realistic.

Put my name on the list, too.

Aaron Colvin, CB Oklahoma. Tore his ACL at the Senior Bowl. He had a low 3rd round grade prior to the Senior Bowl (70 out of 99 according to Scouts, Inc).

Above-average height but could use to add bulk to frame. Estimated top-end speed is good.
Suffered a shoulder injury in the 2011 season opener against Tulsa and played the entire season with the injury. Eventually had surgery to repair the injury during the offseason and missed all of spring practice in 2012.
Passionate about the game. Vocal and possesses natural leadership skills. Displays the mental toughness to play through pain. Has experience at both safety and cornerback.
Average overall FBIs. Strong eyes in zone coverage. Adequate anticipation skills but has room for improvement. Must work on technique in man coverage and loses initial leverage too often. Above-average diagnostic skills defending the run.
A fluid and flexible athlete. Flashes mirror capabilities in press man coverage. However, must improve technique and use hands with more consistency to be effective at next level. Just average off man coverage skills. Lacks ideal quickness and burst out of break. Displays adequate but not elite recovery speed.
Average to above-average playmaking instincts. Takes quality angles and appears to have above-average length playing the ball in one-on-one battles. Hands are good but not elite. Tracks the ball well but can be late getting head around when caught in trail technique.
Quality run defender. Consistently sets the edge. Shows good strength with wrap as tackler and flashes ability to deliver big hit. Angles are sound for the most part but will come in too hot and miss tackle in the open field on occasion.

Some team is going to take this kid late, redshirt him for a year and get a solid prospect.
