The Factory of Sadness Coloring Book
Scott O’Brien, a Cleveland sports fan who now lives in Los Angeles, put together a Kickstarter project to fund the creation of a coloring book highlighting the most depressing moments in Cleveland sports. Somehow he has managed to edit it down to a planned 55 pages. Really, it go for thousands, but I suppose then that the production cost would bankrupt him, making him only slightly sadder than he already is.
This project is not about reopening old Cleveland wounds. I’ll leave that to the national sports media. This is about having a laugh at the sheer lunacy of what we have “witnessed” over the years. We know we have to laugh sometimes to avoid losing our minds.
It’s also about sharing the history with our children so they can appreciate why we cheer the way do, and more often, hang our heads in disbelief. At the very least, it is a great way for them to learn about Murphy’s Law.
The coloring book will be roughly 55 pages long, with 25 black & white illustrations depicting scenes of notable Cleveland sports failures, such as: The Shot, The Fumble, The Drive and The Decision.
The book, titled “Why is Daddy Sad on Sunday” has already received nearly four times the $2,000 threshold needed for funding, so it appears as though this thing is a go. I look forward to when it comes out and someone disregards the book’s coloring suggestions and just dumps their blood and viscera on the pages. Ah, Cleveland sports sadness, so sumptuous and rich.
