Typical talking heads rankings created to gather clicks and create debates amongst viewers. Every HC, OC, scout, FO guy and offensive player will tell you that their offense is only as good as their O-Line but yet there is only 1 O-lineman rated in the top 50 players in the NFL. Another reason these rankings have no credibility with me. How can you compare skill levels and/or value of a QB or WR with that of an OG or C in the first place? Positional rankings I can understand. But even with those I think you need to consider the requirements of the position and not just the newspaper headlines. Take the TE for example. Blocking is as big a part of the job description as catching passes. But Jimmy Graham or Gronk or V Davis will always be considered better than Heath simply because they catch a lot of passes. But neither of those can block his mother. If Heath is 100% this year there is no other in the league I would take over him. He is the definition of a TE. Just MHO.
The above is not a comment on the Jarvis sack as much as the rankings themselves which you did state was debatable. Guess the comment was my side of the debate. Agree with you that there’s no debating the fact that Joe Thomas is one of if not the best LT in the game and JJ did have probably his best game against him. Only thing I worry about is with that being the last game of the season maybe Thomas was thinking more about vacation than Jarvis.
Jarvis’ stat line from the Cleveland game: 9 tackles, 8 solo, 1 tackle for loss, no sacks. I also seem to recall Butler saying they credited him with 3 pressures.
By far his best game. His pass rush was adequate, against a very good LT, he sealed well against the run and was solid in coverage. A good day for the rook and a great way to end the season.
It’s only only game and he’ll need to build momentum this season to get people to take him more seriously. But, my guess is that he performed better in that game because he was finally comfortable in the scheme and not thinking anymore.
I definitely agree it was JJ’s best game but repeat my concern that Thomas may not have been 100% focused. If nothing else though hopefully it helped his confidence which, as you know, is mandatory for any pass rusher.
Just a side note to the Jarvis sack; according to SD the sack actually came when he was being blocked by a RB. Just sayin’.
The entire Browns just gave up on that game. I wouldn’t put much stock into it.
