Fan Comment Examined
Here is a fan comment following the most recent loss. I thought it would be interesting to dissect.
Who was stunned? Not me. This team is atrocious. The talent on both sides of the ball is mediocre at best, but the defense from Butler to the LBs to the DBs and Safeties are not professional caliber. That we are actually paying that much for those players shows how time has also passed Colbert by. We keep losing good players because our CAP space is so poorly managed every year. This team needs to be dismantled starting with Haley with Tomlin not being too far behind. The stupid penalties show the coaches have lost control of these mediocre players. The D is so easy to rip apart; but the offense is not much better. If money wasn’t wasted on bad contracts extra could have kept the play makers in Pittsburgh instead of contributing to other teams in the NFL.
Actually, this is a comment from the Baltimore Sun web site. I changed a few names to illustrate how every team has fans who pretty much make the same kind of comments. Of course often the comments are justified and make valid points, but other times the fans just like to gripe with questionable merit.
Here is the original unedited comment:
Who was stunned? Not me. This team is atrocious. The talent on both sides of the ball is mediocre at best, but the defense from Pees to the LBs to the DBs and Safeties are not professional caliber. That we are actually paying that much for those players shows how time has also passed Ozzie by. We keep losing good players because our CAP space is so poorly managed every year. If Flacco was paid at 14 mil that 6 mil extra could have kept the play makers in Baltimore instead of contributing to other teams in the NFL.
Who, pray tell, is the fucking moron who penned this retort?
If you mean who wrote the original comment, I can’t believe the answer would matter. Just some random guy commenting on the Baltimore Sun, however this is representative of the commentary there, as well as pretty much any site for any team that has lost a game or two in a row including the Steelers.
Apparently every team is loaded with mediocre, non-professional talent, terrible coaches, inept playcalling, and a GM and front office that has lost touch with reality.
Ah, I see. I didn’t read anything above past the initial salvo. I didn’t catch your reveal until now.
No that I am a genius by any stretch, but I did write this August10th RE: the Rats
I still don’t see how anyone sees the Rats as a top 5 team. Kamar Aiken (ever heard of him?) is their number 2 WR. Last year he had no starts and caught 24 balls. There are already as many questions about Perriman as Coates has. Marlon Brown has barely practiced. Aging Steve Smith is their #1. Michael Campanaro is an injury waiting to happen. Their WR corps has more questions than answers.
They lost Owen Daniels and replaced him with a rookie I love as a receiver in Maxx Williams, but he’s a rookie.
Osemele and Monroe didn’t look great side by side last year. The best player on the team is a GUARD in Marshall Yanda.
Getting their CBs back healthy will certainly help, but how long can you count on them to stay healthy?
On D, they lost Ngata, Pernell McPhee, Darian Stewart and replaced them with Kendrick Lewis and Kyle Arrington, who was let go by New England.
On top of all that, they just lost their starting SS in Matt Elam for the year to a biceps tear.
People are dumb.
