It was a great draft experience, if not a great draft, but the drama has now come to a close. We can declare who finished, um, ahead, and state that our efforts were not, um, in vain.

First, let’s declare outright that none of us did particularly well compared to previous standout performances such as Walsh in 2021. Still, a win is a win. As Big Ben used to say, winning ugly is as good as winning pretty.

Here is a summary of all of the scoring:

  • copanut1: 2 points
    • 2nd round WR – 1 point
    • UDFA selection Jaylen Warren – 1 point
  • copanut2: 4 points
    • 2nd round WR – 1 point
    • Named player (Heyward) – 2 points
    • UDFA selection Jaylen Warren – 1 point
  • tennbob: 0 points
    • tennbob wins the James Harrison Participation Trophy. At Steel Balls, nobody goes home empty handed!
  • MWalsh26: 4 points
    • 1st round QB – 1 point
    • Named player (Heyward) – 2 points
    • UDFA selection Mark Robinson – 1 point (actually drafted, but we’ll count it)
  • EstimatedProphet1: 2 points
    • 1st round QB – 1 point
    • 2nd round WR – 1 point
  • EstimatedProphet2: 1 points
    • 4th round WR – 1 point
  • Eleven: 3 points
    • Named player and round – WR (Pickens) – 3 points
  • Earl: 3 points
    • 1st round QB – 1 point
    • Named player (Heyward) – 2 points

So there you have it – the 2022 draft contest winner is a tie between Walsh and your humble servant, copanut, and that’s no illusion.

The best pick of the event goes to Eleven for hitting Pickens in the second round. If not for the UDFA tie-breakers, I would have awarded the contest to Eleven on that basis. Lesson learned: always submit your slate of UDFAs, even if it’s a random set of names. You just might hit one or two.
