Don’t mess this up for America
Democrats have one job in 2020: Beating Donald Trump. Nothing else matters. If progressives manage to mess this up by insisting on hard-left positions and ideological purity, they will own Trump’s second term. There is a time and a place for everything. When the ship is sinking and you find yourself in a lifeboat, you don’t argue about where you want to go, you head for the nearest land. Further travel arrangements can wait until you’re back in civilization.
The 2020 election is not a normal election. It isn’t going to be about progressives and conservatives. It’s going to be about those who believe America’s democratic institutions are more important than the politics of the day and those who are willing to wreck them for short-term political gain. We who choose to stand with our democratic institutions need to keep our eye on the prize. We can’t afford the self-indulgence of standing on principle and going down in glorious defeat.
Or rather, we must all stand on one overriding principle, that we must install someone with respect for the rule of law and reverence for our constitutional system of government as the next president of the United States. That will require compromise from all of us. The bridge is long and narrow, but cross it we must.
What if you looked at the Steelers depth chart from a slightly different standpoint? What if it included expiring contracts?
Would it change your perspective on where the Steelers should direct their attention 1st this offseason?
A snap shot of the Steelers current depth chart, along with notations on contracts slated to expire in the next 14 months appears above. Players marked with # are scheduled to be UFAs in 2017. I did not include players due to be restricted or exclusive rights free agents at the end of 2016.
People are visual by nature. When you look at the depth chart this way it, rather than just considering where you may believe the team needs improvement, it becomes clear where the Steelers personnel priorities lie before free agency and the draft. Whatever moves the Steelers make must take into consideration expiring contracts.
If you leave those places on the depth chart blank, where a UFA occupies that spot, it becomes even more clear.
Man, it’s difficult to deal with the the offsesason, particularly June – one of the deadest periods of our long national offseason nightmare.
So… here are some random thoughts that have nothing to do with football.
Thank you Donald Trump! I don’t care about your politics – if you don’t find The Donald hysterically funny there is something wrong with you. He makes all the other presidential candidates look normal and sane by comparison, and that is no small feat. Revel in his nearly incoherent and yet magnificently narcissistic announcement today:
“I will be… the greatest jobs president… that God ever created… I tell you that.” I’m thankful that he added “I tell you that” to the end of the sentence because that just makes it so more… real.
Donald will do for the combover what Lincoln did for the tophat.
First we had transgender, then transracial. Why not transfootball? As long as we can all pretend to be what we are not, why not give a break to the Cleveland Browns and let them pretend to be what they are not – a professional football team. Or let Bill Belicheck pretend to be what he is not – a fully animate entity.
Another terrorist dies… and another 1000 headlice go homeless.
Are you sick and tired of spam? The most amazing spam control software I’ve ever used is called Cloudmark DesktopOne and it’s free. The design is genius and results in extremely accurate spam detection thanks to crowd stats and honeypotting. Since I installed it, it has blocked 4,704 spams of 6,170 messages (76%) with zero false positives and almost no misses.
One of the best places on Earth. Can you identify it?
Oh, just one more more thing… I’ve been killing time lately by watching Columbo on Netflix. Though somewhat dated in style, that was one brilliant show. Love watching Peter Falk make the perps squirm until he pulls the rabbit out of the hat at the end. Also quality guest actors and production staff like Bochco. Good stuff.
Okay, just remember…
